New Westminster and Port Coquitlam made the Top 10 for the best cities in B.C. to be a renter.
That’s the result of a study by Point2Homes.com that analyzed 23 metrics in urban municipalities across Canada, including the cost to rent, walkability, crime rates, air quality and civic amenities.
Here’s the list of where it’s great to rent in 2024 (in descending order):
- Victoria
- Vancouver
- Prince George
- North Vancouver (city)
- Langley
- New Westminster
- Kamloops
- Port Coquitlam
- North Vancouver (district)
- Delta
Victoria scored the highest in B.C. because of its restaurants, museums and education, according to the study.
Across Canada, St. John’s, N.L., was named the best city for renters followed by Sherbrooke, Que., and Québec City.
Seven cities in Quebec, as well as Cape Breton, N.S., have the lowest average rents in the country: under $1,000 a month.
And Toronto, Oakville and Montreal have the most homes for rent while 83 per cent of renters in Wood Buffalo, Alta., spend less than 30 per cent of their income on housing costs.
Data for the study was also gleaned from Statistics Canada and WalkScore.com.
