Another public pool in the Tri-Cities will temporarily close in September.
Starting Monday, Aug. 26, the leisure and lap tanks at Port Coquitlam's Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier St.) will shut for their yearly clean.
But the squash and racquetball courts, weight room and gym will stay open while the pool work is being done; it is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 14.
To comply with health and safety regulations, the pool maintenance includes:
- draining and repairing pool tanks
- repairing tile and re-grouting in the lap pool
- inspecting and fixing the waterslide
- undertaking preventative work on mechanical systems
- painting
In the meantime, swimmers can use the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) or, at no cost, an outdoor pool.
To complete annual maintenance, Hyde Creek Recreation Centre's leisure and lap pools will be closed for from Aug. 26 – Sept. 14 inclusive. The Hyde Creek pool closure is happening at the same time Coquitlam is also scrubbing its northside tank at the City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way).
That temporarily closure is slated from Tuesday, Sept. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 6.
The CCAC fitness area will shut from Tuesday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 9 and reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 10. While the pool is being updated, the gym hours will be:
- Mondays to Fridays
- 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
- Saturdays
- 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- closed on Sundays
During the CCAC upkeep, residents and visitors can travel up the hill to the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) for a swim, drop-in fitness class or workout.
Or, for outdoor swimming, the Eagle Ridge Pool (2689 Guildford Way, Coquitlam) — three blocks west of CCAC — is open for a free dip until Oct. 6.
