Coquitlam RCMP officers poured out a lot of alcohol while patrolling the Buntzen Lake picnic area on all-terrain vehicles (ATV) over the B.C. Day long weekend.
More than 90 alcohol pour outs occurred over the weened and police turned away dozens of people at the gate who tried to bring booze into the park.
They also conducted one drug seizure and arrested one person for a obstruction and breaching his conditional sentence order. Police said a well-known gangster was also turned away from the park.
"We felt that the ATV presence most definitely stymied any major alcohol related incidents," said Const. Chris Nordlund of the Coquitlam RCMP's rural section. "The Coquitlam Mounties' main objective for patrolling Buntzen Lake is to ensure a safe, family-oriented place for everyone to enjoy. Alcohol and water recreation don't mix, just as rowdy drunks and families don't mix."
Mounties also had to deal with two medical emergencies.
