A Westwood elementary student received recognition from the Coquitlam RCMP after helping a shaken and injured victim of an assault find help at his school last month.

Josh Pobran received an Officer-in-Charge Commendation in front of his family, teachers and friends during a ceremony this week.

The 10-year-old was hanging out at his school when Barbara Moulson, who had just been beaten and had her purse stolen, walked onto the grounds. She had just knocked on two neighbouring doors but nobody was home.

"You look like you could use some help," Pobran said before leading the shaken woman to the school's administration office, where staff immediately contacted the police and the BC Ambulance Service.

"He's an exceptional kid and his family and friends should be really proud of how he rose to the occasion," said Coquitlam RCMP Supt. Claude Wilcott. "[He] kept his cool and made a real difference for someone in distress."

Wilcott said that Moulson has since recovered from her injuries and greatly appreciated Pobran's help and bravery during a stressful situation.

Several days after the incident police arrested 32-year-old Joon Woo Lim, who is facing charges relating to attacks in North Vancouver, Surrey and Coquitlam.
