It's one of the few weeks of the year where eating an endless amount of cookies is strongly encouraged for the benefit of others.

Tim Hortons' Smile Cookie Week began on Monday (Sept. 19) and is set to raise thousands of dollars locally for charities and organizations.

This year, there are 10 restaurants across the Tri-Cities participating in the 26th annual campaign.

Nine of them are collecting funds for the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, while one other is set to donate its total to the Food Banks of Canada.

And you can feel really good about buying a dozen or more cookies as 100 per cent of the proceeds are going to chosen non-profits.

"It is a fun initiative, and it is wonderful to see the smiles both on the cookies, and the customers' faces when they purchase a Smile Cookie,” said Ben Yip, Tim Hortons' B.C. and Yukon regional spokesperson, in a release sent to the Tri-City News.

"Tim Hortons Smile Cookie has raised over $77 million across North America since 1996 and last year alone raised a record $12 million."

For the initiative, Tim Hortons uses its chocolate chunk cookies and decorates each one by hand — blue icing for the eyes and pink for the smile.

Cookies are $1 each plus tax, and are only being sold at the following Tri-Cities locations, according to the company's Smile Cookie map (in no particular order):
