Here's what's going on in the Tri-Cities for Saturday, Aug. 26.


Cornhole Classic

The third annual Colon Cancer Charity Cornhole Classic — or The 5C — is on at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) all day, starting at 11 a.m. Be a player or spectator at the 19+ event, which will include three food trucks (Big Red’s Poutine, Taps and Tacos and Smoky’s BBQ) and five beer services (Patina, Nice Life, Northpaw, Taylight and the Kinsmen tent) plus live music. Proceeds go to colon cancer research and awareness through the Goutsisson Family Foundation.

Take Action

The Tri-Cities Community Action Team hosts an event to raise awareness about the global overdose crisis. The gathering, called Creative Expressions of Social Justice, is at Coquitlam's Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists are invited to come to showcase their work around mental health and substance relationships. A community art project will take place.

Reading Medals

Kids who signed up for the Summer Reading Club with the Port Moody Public Library (100 Newport Dr.) can pick up their hardware if they read for 15 minutes for the past 50 days. The event from 1 to 3 p.m. includes arts and crafts.

Legion Dance

The Diggers are at the Royal Canadian Legion in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) starting at 7 p.m. There’s no cover charge for non-members tonight.

Comic Strippers

The Comic Strippers return to their home base of the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) for a comedy show at 7:30 p.m. The improv performance by the fictitious male stripper troupe, which includes Roman Danylo and Coquitlam native Michael Teigen, is for adults only.

Flamenco Fusion

See Spanish native Melón Jimenez and Canadian Lara Wong play a blend of Spanish flamenco and Indian music from 8 to 9 p.m. in the rehearsal hall of the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way). The pair has played around the world, including at SunFest, TAIWANFest, Mundial Montreal and Festival de Musica Española Cadiz.

Flick Night

Get your blankets and bug spray and head over to Port Coquitlam's Evergreen Park (3500 Cedar Dr.) for the free screening of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie at 8:45 p.m. Cinema Under the Stars is presented by the City of Port Coquitlam.

What's Next

The six-piece party band What’s Next hits the Asylum stage in Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam (2080 United Blvd.) for a 9:30 p.m. party. They cover songs from the 1960s to modern day. There’s no cover charge; however, guests must be at least 19 years old.
