The birth of a child heralds many thing but for one Port Moody artist a new child changed her art and her view of the world.

Paula Ledenko has spent the majority of her life in the Tri City area, currently in Port Moody. She is a mother and self taught artist who has a desire to create.

Ledenko took the natural beauty around her for granted until the birth of her daughter. Now she tries to see the world through the eyes of a child and transfer that vision onto canvas.

Her objective: simple works that are not meant to accurately display real life but rather capture the bright and full colours that bring joy to her life and the lives of those around her.

Each new canvas begins with a vague plan and the goal to achieve something that is bold, simple and clean. Ledenko enjoys creating something that evokes a sense of peace and happiness that will draw the viewer in.

She can often be found displaying her work at various arts and crafts festivals throughout the Lower Mainland. This avenue of display allows her the ability to speak face to face with art lovers and, of course, personally meet those who are gracious enough to take something she's created into their own homes.

When she's not painting or colouring with her daughter, Ledenko can be found trying many things including running, skiing and everything in between.

The Port Moody Public Library will display the work of Ledenko during the month of November.
