Cultural groups across Metro Vancouver are splitting $300,000 worth of grants from the regional district (MVRD), including three in the Tri-Cities.

Today (Aug. 17), the agency announced that it had awarded money to 63 arts and culture organizations to support their projects.

In the Tri-Cities, they include:

  • $5,000 = United Scottish Cultural Society, Coquitlam
  • $5,000 = DreamRider Productions Society, Port Moody
  • $1,500 = Coquitlam Heritage Society, Coquitlam

Annual funding of up to $10,000 per project is available to cultural groups in the region.

This year, Metro Vancouver received 106 applications to seek a combined total of $900,000 in grants for proposed works.

"The recipients of this year's regional cultural grants create projects, shows, performances and events that connect our communities and enrich our lives in countless ways," said George V. Harvie, chair of Metro Vancouver’s board of directors, in a news release.

"I am pleased that Metro Vancouver is able to support many organizations that have a long-standing commitment to serving the region and encourage the endeavours of new organizations."
