Port Moody author Yvonne Harris is signing her new book Ashoona, Daughter of the Winds this weekend.

Port Moody author Yvonne Harris is signing her new book Ashoona, Daughter of the Winds this weekend.

Published by Eschia Books, an aboriginal press in Edmonton, the book tells the story of a young Inuit woman who defies the odds to not only survive in the north's harsh landscape, but thrives as well.

Harris lived and worked on Baffin Island for two years, where a village elder told her the story of her arranged marriage to a much older man, the basis of Harris' book.

She'll be signing copies of Ashoona at Chapters in Pinetree Village Saturday, March 10, 1 to 3 p.m. A public book launch is at Pasta Polo on March 17, from 2 to 4 p.m.
