Georgas to play PoMo art fest

Given a choice between composing or performing as her favourite pastimes, Hannah Georgas picks neither. "I think the best part about music is recording," the Juno-nominated pop/rock singer-songwriter said. "It's always been so positive for me.

Given a choice between composing or performing as her favourite pastimes, Hannah Georgas picks neither.

"I think the best part about music is recording," the Juno-nominated pop/rock singer-songwriter said. "It's always been so positive for me. It's a very exciting time because the songs are so fresh and you're making them come to life."

Earlier last year, Georgas was in a Toronto studio for nearly three months collaborating with producer Graham Walsh of Holy F--- and members of Wintersleep and Mother Mother for her sophomore self-titled album, which will be released Oct. 2 on Dine Alone Records.

And, luckily for Tri-City music lovers, Georgas plans to sing all 10 tracks from the new LP this Friday at her show for the 15th annual Port Moody Festival of the Arts.

The 8 p.m. performance at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) will also feature Dustin Bentall and Kendel Carson.

For the first part of this year, Georgas was busy on the road and promoting her debut album, This Is Good, which came out in April 2010. She toured North America, UK and Europe for four months, opening for Ottawa-based musician Kathleen Edwards and playing with her band (Georgas also supported Edwards in her TV appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon).

Last month, the pair also hooked up for a Live at Squamish gig.

That hectic schedule didn't leave much time to write, Georgas admitted. The composer of such popular tunes as Enemies, Elephant and Robotic - heard on frequent play on The Peak 102.7 FM - hopes she can get a few notes down in between her performance dates for the rest of this year, which includes opening for Mother Mother and Husky, in Canada and the United States.

"Once you're in a zone and you're with people touring, it's hard," the Vancouver resident said. "When I write, I want to be in my own space, and quiet. Hopefully, I can make time for that soon."

Tickets at $25/$20 to see Hannah Georgas perform live in concert can be bought via www.pomoartsfestival.ca/tickets. For more information on the arts festival, visit www.pomoartsfestival.ca.
