CPL offers a variety of programs for teenagers, including:
Wii bowling league: Teens (or adults or kids of all ages) can consider joining the Wii bowling league. Players will toss strikes and spares in Room 3 at the City Centre branch. Meetings will be at 7 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 17 to Feb. 28. Email Chris to register: [email protected].
Parlez-Nous Français: Improve your French in the library's after-school French homework and conversation club. French immersion students in elementary or middle school are invited to practise with French-speaking volunteers from high school. Kids should bring homework assignments, or come prepared to work on their French conversation skills. Teen volunteers will earn community service hours. The next session of Parlez-Nous Français will run Fridays, Jan. 11 (today!) to March 1, from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. at the Poirier branch. Terry Fox Library's staff is happy to connect adult learners with free learning materials and referrals to literacy tutoring program, including:
Foundations English classes: Upgrade your reading, writing and vocabulary skills at ongoing classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30 to 3:45 p.m. Register through Coquitlam Continuing Education, 604-936-4261.
English conversation group: Drop by the library and practise English in a friendly, social situation each Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to noon; presented in partnership with Share Family and Community Services.
Adult learner book club: Make new friends, read interesting books and practise English in a fun environment. Adults upgrading their reading skills or learning English are welcome to join. The books discussed vary from ELSA levels 2 to 5 according to the reading levels and interests of the group. Call or drop by the information desk to join.

PORT MOODY
Mousercize (registration required): On Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m., you can learn how to use a mouse and familiarize yourself with the computer keyboard in a relaxed setting. Space is limited. Call 604-469-4577 to reserve a computer.
Pre-school Storytime (drop-in): Starting on Jan. 21, parents and their children from 18 months to five years can join librarians from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the PMPL Storytelling Circle for Pre-school Storytime. Help your child get ready to read with stories and songs. The earlier you expose a child to language, song and rhyme, the better. Storytime is a fun way to help children build vocabulary, develop fine and gross motor skills, develop social skills, learn how to participate in a group setting and form a positive association with books and learning. Research shows that all these activities encourage healthy brain development. This program runs until May 27.
Tech Café: Got a new electronic gadget and need help figuring out how it works? Free one-on-one help with your basic computer questions is available at PMPL. Drop by the ParkLane Room on Fridays through Feb. 8 between 4 and 5:30 p.m. and meet teen volunteers who will help you with a variety of technology basics: email, smartphones, Microsoft Office and more.
