TREE CHIP

If you missed the Coquitlam and Port Moody tree chipping last weekend, haul your live tree to Firehall #1 in Port Coquitlam, where firefighters will recycle undecorated trees for a minimum $5 donation. Supporting the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society, the annual event runs on Jan. 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the city facility (1725 Broadway St.), with chips scattered on city trails and in parks. Because of physical distancing protocols, customers must stay in their vehicles during the drive-thru. For home pick-ups — for a minimum $10 donation — call 604-927–5405 to arrange a curbside collection, or fill out the online form via portcoquitlam.ca/treechip. Otherwise, trees without tinsel or chemical sprays can be cut into pieces and placed in the city green carts, measuring no longer than 40 inches (and up to three inches in diameter). Visit portcoquitlam.ca/green.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Kids in preschool, kindergarten and Grade 1 can learn about past family life in Maillardville at a Zoom presentation by the Coquitlam Heritage Society. The 45-minute online show from Mackin House (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) starts at 11 a.m. To register for the free program, visit coquitlamheritage.ca.
