Woman on mobility scooter attacked near busy Coquitlam park

Police are asking for help to find a suspect who tried to pull a woman off her mobility scooter in Coquitlam last month.

RCMP say the unprovoked attack happened on Feb. 23 at 7:50 p.m. near Glen Park (1149 Westwood St., Coquitlam).

The woman was eastbound on Lincoln Avenue when a man came out from the woods, said "come here," grabbed her around the waist and tried to pull her off her scooter.

When he couldn't, he ran back into the forested area, police say.

The woman was not hurt in the attack.

"These types of assaults are very concerning to the police and the public," said Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Alexa Hodgins, in a news release. 

"Police are asking for the public’s assistance in gathering further information including additional witnesses and dash cam or cellphone footage."

The suspect is described as:

  • having an Asian accent
  • wearing a dark puffy jacket, dark blue jeans, white short and a grey wide-brimmed baseball hat

Anyone with information about the suspect or who witnessed the incident is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2023-5083.
