A man facing charges in connection with a shooting at the Colwood home of a Punjabi music star last September has had his bail request denied.
Abjeet Kingra, 25, was charged with discharge of a firearm with intent and arson after the Sept. 2, 2024, incident in which two vehicles were set on fire.
He appeared in provincial court in Victoria on Wednesday, where his bail request was turned down. He is expected to remain in custody until the matter is concluded.
Kingra and 23-year-old Vikram Sharma are accused of shooting into the home of AP Dhillon in Colwood, and setting two vehicles on fire.
Someone inside the home had to be helped out by officers, police said at the time of Kingra’s arrest in Ontario in October.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Sharma, who was last known to be living in Winnipeg but is believed to be in India, police previously said.
Dhillon, whose full name is Amritpal Singh Dillon, is a Punjabi singer, rapper and record producer.
Last year, the 31-year-old signed a contract with Universal Music Canada and Republic Records, which is a music producer for Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and John Mellencamp.
Dhillon moved to Canada from India in 2015. He attended high school in Greater Victoria and studied at Camosun College.
In 2023, he was the first Punjabi-language artist to perform at a Canadian Juno Awards event.
