Tri-City residents wanting to check out a book or find entertainment can’t rely on arts and culture venues during the COVID-19 crisis.
This week, the Coquitlam Public Library closed its City Centre and Poirier branches — until further notice — in an effort to stop the spread of the disease.
As well, its programs, events, activities, group visits and Library Link service are on hold; however, the library’s website (coqlibrary.ca) remains open. Library users can log in for eBooks, eAudio, stream videos, take online learning classes, and read digital newspapers and magazines.
And if you don’t have a library card, there’s a sign up tool on the website.
The city of Port Coquitlam also shut down the Terry Fox Library, which is located inside a civic facility, while the Port Moody Public Library also locked its doors and suspended late fees.
Monday, Place des Arts in Coquitlam also stopped its spring break camps and all September-to-June classes and private lessons until at least March 27. Full or partial refunds are being allowed and make-up classes may be rescheduled. Call 604-664-1636.
The same day, after the public health officer banned gatherings of more than 50 people and restricted travel, the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam also shuttered its business and art gallery until at least April 12.
Refunds are available to ticket holders, renters and parents with kids in spring break camps now cancelled. Call the box office at 604-927-6555.
And, over at PoMoArts, spring break camps and programs are off as the St. Johns Street centre is down until at least March 27.
“We don’t take this action lightly. We recognize this may cause scheduling challenges for some parents but feel this action is in the best interest of our entire community and are deeply grateful for your support,” the centre wrote in a release.
Meanwhile, the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam also suspended operations Sunday night while Coquitlam’s Cineplex won’t be screening movies until April 2 but you can rent or buy the latest flicks via store.cineplex.com to watch at home.
