MONTREAL — Quebec's police watchdog is investigating after a Montreal police officer fatally shot a person during an intervention late Saturday.
A preliminary summary by the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes says officers received a 911 call at about 9 p.m. about a person in an apartment building with a firearm.
Police arrived a few minutes later and made contact with the person, according to the news release.
The watchdog says police fired at the person, who was wounded by a bullet.
It says officers then called an ambulance and gave first aid to the person, who was declared dead at the scene.
The watchdog said six investigators had been assigned to the case, adding that no further information is available.
