Why all the bickering?

The Editor,

Once in power, most provincial policies and decisions made on our behalf end up differing little between the two main parties. And there's a surprising amount of behind-the-scenes co-operation between the parties once they're back at work.

So why the shrill finger-pointing during an election?

I'm embarrassed by the political culture in B.C., by the fear-mongering and by the angry posturing behaviour in the legislature and in public in-between elections.

Lots of things that supposedly "work" - like negative campaigning, so we're told - are still flat-out manipulative and wrong.

It's not the way most of us live and it doesn't reflect who we are as British Columbians. It's no wonder we toss a coin and hold our noses to vote if, sadly, we vote at all.
