The Editor,
Re. "Trustee Alty should serve where she lives: Ginter"
I have known Gail Alty, who is running for re-election as a Coquitlam school trustee, for many years both through my personal and professional life. Both myself and my children had the opportunity to work with Ms. Alty on several occasions on different projects.
Everyone has their criteria for their personal choices when they cast their vote. While on occasion Ms. Alty and I may debate a topic and agree to disagree, I never waiver in my respect and support of her effort.
I can't tell you how often I've questioned her sanity for continuing to serve this community and this school district. Being an elected official is a thankless job. Commuting to work from Vancouver Island is a major drag.
Most sane people who don't need a job and are enjoying a new marriage just simply wouldn't do it.
Ms. Alty meets the election requirements set out by the province.
She runs because she sees the need for her experience.
Her children still live in our community and she very soon will have grandchildren within our school system.
I don't care where she lives and care even less that the president of a CUPE local thinks it matters.
