Take steps on climate crisis

The Editor,

A letter to MP James Moore:

I want you to know that I am very concerned about the impact of climate crisis is having on our environment and our children's future. The crisis is now evident in the rapidly decreasing polar ice caps and island folk losing their entire land, such as Kiribati, an island in the Pacific, where people are now climate refugees looking for new homes in Africa and in Europe.

I urge you, as decision makers in Canada, to find the courage and wisdom to press for, and put into action, the urgent measures needed to assure a safe, future climate for all. This action will include most importantly that we reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere from the current 400 to a safe 350 parts per million.

I further urge you to visit the www.climatefast.ca website. You will see how poorly Canada is doing in accordance with its Kyoto and Copenhagen pledge targets, and Canada's trend toward carbon emissions. I want to know that you will take action for three needed changes:

end fossil fuel subsidies;

put a price on carbon;

and, most importantly, support the development of a renewable energy plan for Canada.

These changes will give me greater confidence in our shared future. To date, 110 MPs have pledged support. Can you assure me that you will work for these changes in Parliament?
