The Editor,

Re. "Mariner Way truck route talk" (The Tri-City News, Sept. 10).

We were appalled to read the city of Coquitlam would even consider a truck route in Ranch Park.

Is it not enough that we have to contend with speeding vehicles driving without due care and attention on Mariner and Como Lake, which has a posted speed limit of 50 km/h even though most drivers feel 60 to 80 km/h is more appropriate for them? Ranch Park is a family-oriented area and daily we see vehicles running the red light at Mariner and Hawser, both north and southbound - even with advance warning.

Also, many private driveways and side roads lead onto Mariner Way, with some blind spots due to the curves in the road, which make entering Mariner risky.

The city should erect a large sign reading: "Residential area: 50 km strictly enforced."
