The Editor,
I have questioned municipal election campaign funding for years now and find it quite unbelievable to what extent it has reached.
Without saying anything underhanded is going on, how can one claim to be impartial when he has received thousands of dollars from someone with a distinct interest with the matter at hand? If someone gave me $5,000 to get my job and then asked me to approve something, I would feel a little more than obliged.
I even had an interest in running for municipal government myself but know unless I coughed up $25,000, I would have to sign a deal with the devil.
When you see the development on Burke Mountain and council appearing surprised that it doesn't have enough transit, schools and recreation to support the increases in density, it make you wonder why the council is supporting such growth.
I believe the past and present council don't have the interest of the present residents at heart. It seems that the number one goal is to grant building permits.
And don't get me started on municipal wage hikes.
