Dear Editor:

To the bearded runner who blasted between myself and an 89-year-old fellow dog walker as we were chatting on the pathway outside Mahon Park Saturday (Jan. 26) around 10:45 a.m., nicely done.

I’m assuming your point was that we were taking up too much room and/or might have caused you to have to deviate or slow down for a second to go around us. The fact that you ran between us, at full speed, with inches to spare was absolutely heroic athleticism. Collateral damage to an elderly lady be damned, you maintained your pace.

Had you had the guts or courtesy to make your complaint directly to me, I would have pointed out that you could easily have run behind my friend, or me, and that the path is not a track, but a shared pathway.

But I think you’d already made up your mind that you come first, and likely drive your vehicle with the same sense of entitlement. Just another small act of selfishness.
