Residents will remember the mayors who have been pushing for more taxes and using more of our municipal taxes for such things as "beautification" of transit stations.
TransLink is a people mover and we do not need to spend money on significant decorations which are being planned in Coquitlam. Transit stations are not meant to be entertainment venues.
The threats continue from the mayors about what they will do unless Victoria takes over. Some have even said they will put down more blacktop to accommodate a whole lot more cars. Why the threats when mayors have seen fit to allow overbuilding in town centres and at the same time, cleared many trees, which do help the environment and are pleasing to see?
Premier Christy Clark continues to waffle on this topic and now does not mind moving the referendum to a later date. Interesting, as initially it would coincide with the civic elections.
Now at a cost of more money from us for the separate referendum, this matter continues with more rhetoric.
Let's face it: more taxes in whatever form will happen. The mayor and the province support this. Does this fit in with the premier's mandate to help families and seniors?
And the meetings go on without any resolution. In the meantime, the mayors on the board of Metro Vancouver continue to draw their fees for each meeting. What has been resolved? Nothing.
