Re. "Coquitlam continues trash deal" (The Tri-City News, May 4).
I was unhappy to hear that Coquitlam city council moved forward renewing the city's waste contract without implementing any changes to its recycling and organic waste program.
Furthermore, it's disappointing that this contract was renewed behind closed doors without the opportunity for public consultation.
Thankfully, Metro Vancouver's mandate to reduce waste will eventually force the city to address this problem. But at a time when other municipalities are already giving residents tools such as single-stream recycling to reduce their footprint, it's sad to see that Coquitlam has chosen to stay at the back of the pack instead of embracing a positive and important change.
