Here’s how you can get money for your conservation or recreation project

A $240,000 annual pot of money has been opened up for volunteer and community-led projects centred around conservation and recreation. 

Whether a mountain biker looking to improve a trail, a stream-keeper hoping to capture conservation data or a gallivanting hiker looking to put up a hut, any volunteer or community group can apply for up to $5,000 per project, running between 2020 and 2021. 

The money from BC Parks has been divided into its six regions, with each one receiving $20,000 earmarked for conservation projects and $20,000 set aside for recreation.

Past funding has gone to projects to control invasive species, construct docks and trails and build wildlife habitat structures like bat boxes, nesting boxes or a bridge over a stream.

Anyone interested must submit a project proposal by June 26, 2020. Winners will be chosen in early July, with projects to be completed by March 31, 2021.
