COVID-19 returns to Coquitlam elementary for fourth time

Parents of students at an independent Catholic high school and another public elementary school, both in Port Coquitlam, also received early notification letters from Fraser Health indicating COVID-19 exposures.

Three more Coquitlam district schools are reporting COVID-19 exposures, including an independent Catholic high school, an elementary school in Coquitlam and another in Port Coquitlam.

Archbishop Carney secondary in Port Coquitlam has been flagged by Fraser Health for an exposure on Nov. 2. Glen elementary in Coquitlam has been flagged for a fourth time for a COVID-19 exposure, this time on Nov. 4 and 6. Previous exposures occurred on Oct. 6, 7 and 9, Oct. 15 and Oct. 16.

And according to an earlier notification letter sent to families and seen by the Tri-City News, a school exposure at Hazel Trembath elementary occurred Oct. 29, though parents weren’t advised until Nov. 11.

Hazel Trembath is the ninth public school in Port Coquitlam to be flagged with a COVID-19 exposure — tenth if you include Archbishop Carney — and one of over 30 facilities across the School District 43.

According to Fraser Health, a school “exposure” indicates a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection attended school during their infectious period.

A school “cluster,” on the other hand, indicates possible school-based transmission with two or more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 attending school while infectious.

Finally, an “outbreak” at a school means “multiple individuals with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection” and that “transmission is likely widespread.”
