A handful of Tri-City dancers will represent Canada at the World Dance Championships in Riesa, Germany next week.

The team, which will include local competitors Dasha Marinets, Amber Hall, Kayla Marques, Rachelle Payandeh, Jayda Wojcik and Carter Hayes, will compete in the Olympic-style format. The event is being put on by the International Dance Organization, which features 250,000 members in six continents.

“It is great to see the best of the best in Canada that come from various studios all working together as one team with one goal,” said Team Canada national director Bonnie Dyer. “And that is to represent Canada.”

The team has been training all summer. Most of the members have raised money to pay for their trip and practice time by holding bottle drives, car washes, hot dog sales and bake sales. The championship begins on Monday and continue until Nov. 26.
