The precious metal count in the Tri-Cities is a little higher today after Team Canada won the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship on Saturday in Langley.
Canada, which featured several local players on its roster, defeated the Iroquois Nationals, 19-12, in the gold medal final.
Port Coquitlam’s Curtis Dickson scored five goals and added two assists, while former Coquitlam Sr. Adanac Dane Dobbie collected 10 points to lead Canada’s charge to its fifth straight title since the quadrennial championship first began in 2003.
Coquitlam’s Robert Church also pitched in four goals and an assist, while former Jr. Adanac star Mark Matthews had a goal and five assists.
Canada held a 6-5 lead after the first quarter, then broke the game open in the middle two periods when they outscored the Nationals 8-3.
The United States finished third in the 20-team tournament, after they beat England 11-8 in the bronze medal game.
