They may not be household names but seven Tri-City residents are being hailed as heroes for their outstanding contributions to sports in the city.
Sport BC is set to honour Bryan Gee (volleyball), Jim Lacroix (Special Olympics), Teena and Steve Frost (basketball), Garry Hornsberger (archery), Sue Williems, (Skate Canada) and Donald Hutchinson (Action Schools! BC) with the Community Sport Hero Award presented by Encana.
All seven winners were nominated by their peers for having given countless hours of their time as coaches, officials, mentors and administrators of sport in Coquitlam.
"The Community Sports Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport," said Tim Gayda, president and CEO of Sport BC in a press release Tuesday.
The awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. next Tuesday at Coquitlam's Executive Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre on North Road.
Sport BC is the federation for amateur sports in B.C., with 64 member provincial sport organizations and 650,000 participants.
