Home ice proved a definite advantage for Port Coquitlam’s Angela Cichos, as she scored a goal and added two assists to help her BC Thunder defeat the the Manitoba Intact, 8-3, last Saturday in their National Ringette League game at the PoCo Community Centre.
The Thunder’s win was the second in a three-game sweep of the visitors.
Sunday, Cichos scored three times in the Thunder’s 8-4 victory at Minoru Arena in Richmond, and Friday the Thunder registered a 4-2 win at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam.
The NRL is the top ringette league in Canada for senior players aged 18 and up. The Thunder is the only team in British Columbia. It is comprised of players from around the province, as well as 43-year-old Finnish native Petro Ojaranta.
The Thunder is currently in third place in the league’s Western division, with 14 points in 12 games. That six fewer than the leading Calgary RATH, but only two behind second-place Edmonton WAM! The Intact is tied for last with the Black Gold Rush; each has a single win in 10 games.
The league also has a White division comprised of teams in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, and a Red division of teams from Ontario.
The Thunder’s next series of home games will be Jan. 11 and 12, when the team hosts Edmonton at the Richmond Ice Centre.
