Coquitlam’s Matteo Polisi scored three goals and added an assist to lead the top-ranked Simon Fraser University Clan men’s soccer team to a 6-1 win over Seattle Pacific University in Seattle on Saturday.
Polisi’s hat trick raises his total goals for the season to 13 in 11 games. That’s tops in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and also one better than teammate Connor Glennon, who scored twice and added an assist in Saturday’s game.
Polisi and Glennon teamed up in the 19th minute to feed Rahid Raheim who connected on a four-yard finish across the box to put SFU up 1-0.
Glennon’s 11th goal of the season made it 2-0 just over two minute later and 5:30 after that Polisi booted home a rebound off Falcons keeper Lars Helleren from 10 yards out.
Police increased the Clan’s advantage to 4-0 early in the second half when he scored on a penalty kick before Grant Titus got one back for SPU.
Polisi’s third goal of the match in the 63rd minute made it 5-1 before Connor finished the scoring in the 81st minute.
The Clan, ranked No. 1 amongst all NCAA Div. 2 teams in the country, have yet to lose in five conference matches. The win was also the team’s 11th in a row.
They’ll play Concordia University in Portland, Ore. on Thursday before returning home to host Western Washington University next Sunday at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby.
The women’s team, meanwhile, extended its own winning streak to four games with a 3-1 victory over Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore., on Saturday.
