It took the Terry Fox Ravens three quarters to finally take flight in their first game at the BC High School AAAA basketball championships Wednesday (March 8) at the Langley Events Centre.
But when they did, they were unstoppable.
The eighth-ranked Ravens outscored ninth seed West Vancouver Highlanders 23-3 in the final frame to roll to a 70-45 win.
Terry Fox now advances to Thursday’s (March 9) quarter-final against top-ranked Semiahmoo, which thumped Mount Baker 116-52 in the day’s opening game.
Against the plucky Highlanders, the Ravens struggled to find a rhythm through the first half, trailing 27-24 at the break.
But a three-pointer to open the second half seemed to give Fox shooters the confidence boost they needed. The Ravens lead 47-42 after three quarters.
Lukas Bulin and Brenddan Nightingale each scored 16 points for Terry Fox while Christian Moore pitched in 14. Ethan Chae and Sukhraj Garcha also hit double-digits.
Calvin Kuzyk was the big shooter for the Highlanders, netting 16.
In a later game, the Heritage Woods Kodiaks lost to Abbotsford 85-76.
