The Centennial Centaurs clinched the regular season title in Fraser North senior girls high school soccer league play with a 2-0 win over the Riverside Rapids Thursday (May 5) at Gates Park in Port Coquitlam.
The Centaurs, reigning provincial champions, finished with eight wins and no losses.
Centennial got goals from Sarah Caravatta in the 13th minutes and Kiera Scott in the 43rd minute.
After that, Centaurs’ coach Larry Moro said, the players battened down the hatches defensively, allowing the Rapids only a couple of shots at their net.
He added, though, Riverside’s defending was equally formidable.
Riverside coach Kenny Jamieson said his charges showed plenty of resilience in their strong effort after a 9-0 loss to the Centaurs earlier in the season.
“Hopefully we are able to make the Fraser North semifinals and have another shot at them,” he said.
Those playoffs, with teams that qualified from the Burnaby-New Westminster league, begin next week.
