Photos: Coquitlam hosts win big on first day of Little League Intermediate Championships

The winner of the tournament advances to the Little League Intermediate World Series, in Livermore, Calif.

Big scores were the order of opening day at the Little League Canadian Intermediate Championships at Coquitlam's Mackin Park.

Team BC, represented by Layritz Little League from Victoria, defeated Ontario 10-4 in the day's first of three games.

The host District 3 Firebirds then defeated Alberta, 13-1, in the early afternoon game while Quebec prevailed 13-0 over Atlantic Canada.

The tournament features the top U13 Little League players and teams in the country. The winner will represent Canada the Intermediate World Series in Livermore, Calif., July 28 to Aug. 4.

Round robin play continues through Sunday, July 21. The semi-finals will be played Tuesday, July 23 with the consolation and championship finals the next day.
