The Coquitlam Express got all the goals they needed in the first 31 seconds of the second period to defeat the Victoria Grizzlies 3-1 in their BC Hockey League (BCHL) game Friday (Feb. 4) at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
Trailing Victoria 1-0 after one period of play, it took Luke Roberts just 18 seconds after the intermission break to get the home team back on even terms.
Then, 13 seconds later, Luke Vardy put the Express up 2-1 when he rifled a shot from the point that eluded Victoria goalie Kyle Kelsey.
Port Moody’s Ryan Tattle iced Coquitlam’s 10th win of the season with an empty-net goal late in the third period.
Former Grizzlies goalie Carter Woodside, who was acquired by the Express in early January, made 35 saves to earn his seventh win of the season.
Kelsey faced 26 shots in Victoria’s net.
Coquitlam travels to Langley on Saturday (Feb. 5) to play the Coastal division leading Rivermen, 7:15 p.m. at the George Preston Arena.
