The score may not have favoured the Centennial Centaurs, but Friday night's (Sept. 16) varsity football game at the school's new turf field was still a celebration.
The Centaurs lost its BC Secondary School Football Association exhibition game to the Vancouver College Fighting Irish 49-6.
But the sting of the pre-season setback was soothed by the excitement that comes with a spanking new facility complete with lights that allows the team to host night games for the first time.
So it seemed only appropriate then, the NFL's Seattle Seahawks boost the party with a visit from its Blue Friday Night Lights crew that included retired star linebacker K.J. Wright, team mascot Blitz, the Blue Thunder drumline and even a few of its cheer squad.
Also on hand was BC Lions legend Jaimie Taras, the CFL team's own mascot and members of its cheer corps.
It was indeed a night of pompoms and circumstance that brought out so many fans, police closed Winslow Avenue as the crowd spilled up the little hillside next to the field and onto the roadway where they tossed footballs and enjoyed snacks from a concession.
