Kaila Butler throws to 12th at NCAA championships

Port Coquitlam’s Kaila Butler finished 12th of 24 athletes competing in Thursday's women’s hammer throw at the NCAA track and field championships at the University of Texas in Austin, Tx.

Butler, a sophomore at Bowling Green University, had one scored throw of 64.64 metres. That was 6.86 metres short of the winning throw, by Camryn Rogers of the University of California. It was also shy of her personal best, 64,92 metres, which she achieved at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last March.

Butler is currently ranked 88th in the world in the event by the International Association of Athletic Federations. She’ll be competing for Canada at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy in July.

Butler will be joined by fellow hammer thrower, Channell Botsis, who’s from Coquitlam, as well as Port Coquitlam’s Brittni Wolczyk, who will compete in the javelin.
