The BC Hockey League’s annual showcase that's being played in Seattle was anything but for the Coquitlam Express Monday night.
The Express lost 8-1 to the Vernon Vipers.
After Vernon’s Anthony Cliche opened the scoring three minutes into the contest, Nate Crema got Coquitlam back on even terms.
But the tie score lasted all of 14 seconds before the Vipers reclaimed the lead for good. Vernon added three more goals in the second period and another three in the third.
Adam Manji faced 27 shots in the Express net, while Vipers’ goalie Colin Reay stopped 27 shots.
Coquitlam will have another chance to impress scouts and recruiters on hand at the Kraken Community Sportsplex to watch all the league’s 17 teams on Thursday when they play the Merritt Centennials at 10:50 a.m.
