Newly-acquired forward Sebastian Bradshaw had an assist in his Coquitlam Express debut, but it wasn’t enough as his team lost 4-2 to the Surrey Eagles, Sunday at the South Surrey Arena.
Bradshaw, an 18-year-old 6’4” winger who was selected in the seventh round of last summer’s NHL entry draft by the Dallas Stars, set up a second-period goal by John Shannon that cut in half the 2-0 lead the Eagles had built through the first frame. A shorthanded goal by Logan Morrell less then a minute later tied it.
But a third-period goal by Surrey’s Rylan Bonkowski and an empty-netter by Arvevga Hovsepyan gave the BC Hockey League-leading Eagles its 12th win in a row to start the season, three of those over the Express.
Coquitlam fired 41 shots at Surrey goalie Jaiden Sharma while Adam Manji stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in the Express net.
The loss drops Coquitlam’s record to five wins, six losses, an overtime win and a shootout loss, for 11 points in 12 games. The team is tied for fifith place in the Coastal division standings with the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The Express return to home ice at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on Friday, 7 p.m., against the Langley Rivermen.
