Wandering minstrels used to sing for their supper. But on Feb. 12, you can sing to help equip schools, libraries, non-profit organizations and low-income families with computers.
The BC Technology for Learning Society (BCLTS) is holding a "Share the love" karaoke fundraiser on Feb. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Taphouse in Coquitlam (405 North Rd.).
A $50 ticket includes a burger, beverage and the opportunity to sing your heart out at the Valentine’s-themed event that is opened to participants 19 years and older.
Proceeds will go towards helping the organization secure warehouse and workshop space where computers and laptops can be refurbished before they’re delivered to groups and people who otherwise might not be able to afford them.
Since 2021, BCLTS has partnered with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to provide 9,200 laptops through its access to technology project.
Founded in 1995, the registered charity has fixed up and distributed more than 200,000 computers across the province.
“We strive to keep the price for refurbished tech as low as possible for those we support with our various programs,” said BCLTS executive director Mary-Em Waddington in a news release.
Tickets to the event are available online at Eventbrite until Feb. 5.
