A new 6.5-km trek in southern Port Coquitlam will be complete by late spring.
On Jan. 30, the city announced construction for the second phase of the PoCo Climb trail has begun and will include:
- a rock stair scramble through Skyline Park
- from Eastern Drive to the plateau
- a gravel walkway
- updates to the existing pedestrian crossing at Eastern Drive to Skyline Park
- wayfinding signs
Work on Phase 2 was delayed due to the poor weather and challenges getting materials delivered; construction was expected to finish last fall.
Under Phase 1, which wrapped up last July at a cost of $400,000, the municipality installed more than 150 timber stairs between Shaughnessy Street and Eastern Drive, as well as flashing beacons to get to ƛ̓éxətəm (tla-hut-um) Regional Park, formerly Colony Farm.

“I’m thrilled with how popular Phase 1 of the PoCo Climb trail has been,” Mayor Brad West stated in a news release.
“Our city is committed to providing more opportunities for residents to stay active and healthy, and it’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying the new trail. Phase 2, with its unique granite boulder scramble and beautiful views, will make this addition to our community even better.”
