Wu is fourth NDP candidate

The race for NDP candidates in the BC Liberal stronghold of Coquitlam-Burke Mountain is heating up.

The race for NDP candidates in the BC Liberal stronghold of Coquitlam-Burke Mountain is heating up.

Yesterday, Vincent Wu - a former Coquitlam city council candidate - announced he plans to join the contest to challenge former Coquitlam councillor Barrie Lynch, punk rocker Joe Keithley and former Olympic wrestler Chris Wilson.

Wu, a resident of the Coquitlam-Maillardville riding and a three-year party member, filed his nomination papers Tuesday to run in the constituency currently held by BC Liberal MLA Doug Horne.

"I believe government works and politics matter," Wu told The Tri-City News, "and I want to put my ideas into action."

Wu said he has volunteered extensively, is a member of the city's multiculturalism advisory committee and has served the area's Asian population.

"I have many connections with the people and I need to speak for them," Wu said, adding his top riding issues are to press for a more balanced development on Burke Mountain, prepare the city for the impact of the Evergreen Line and protect the environment, including adopting a B.C.-wide pesticide ban.

A nomination meeting is expected in December or January.
