Woman in hospital after being hit twice in Coquitlam crosswalk

Do you recognize these vehicles? Mounties say the drivers of both SUVs allegedly struck a woman in the City Centre neighbourhood of Coquitlam late Jan. 27, 2024; neither driver stayed on scene.

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by two different drivers in Coquitlam last night, Jan. 27.

Police say the two hit-and-runs happened shortly before 9:45 p.m. when officers on patrol spotted a vehicle — stopped with its hazard lights on — near Coquitlam City Hall at Pinetree and Guildford ways, in the City Centre neighbourhood.

A Good Samaritan was helping the victim, said Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins.

The detachment said the woman was walking in a crosswalk at the busy intersection when the driver of a white four-door SUV, travelling southbound on Pinetree, turned eastbound on Guildford Way and allegedly struck the pedestrian.

A short time later, the driver of a red/burgundy four-door SUV, also travelling eastbound, allegedly hit the woman who, by then, was unconscious on the ground.

Both drivers fled the scene; it’s believed there may be damage to the front parts of their SUVs.

“We are also asking both involved drivers to immediately come forward and contact the Coquitlam RCMP,” Hodgins said in an news release issued today, Jan. 28.

“We would like to thank the Good Samaritan who stopped their vehicle in an effort to help the victim.”

Coquitlam RCMP’s Investigative Support Team is taking over the investigation while the detachment's Victim Services is also involved in the case.

“Police are asking anyone who may have observed either collision on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, shortly before 9:45 p.m. to contact the Coquitlam RCMP,” Hodgins said.

“Police are also seeking video footage including surveillance, dash cam or cell-phone video around the intersection of Pinetree Way and Guildford Drive between 9:15 p.m. and 10 p.m.”

Anyone who has any information, witnessed this incident or may have video footage, is asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-2286.
