Woman assaulted, suspects sought in attempted Port Moody robbery

One of the thieves allegedly pulled out a firearm during the daylight incident in Port Moody's NewPort Village.

No one was seriously injured and everything was accounted for following an attempted, allegedly armed, robbery in Port Moody today (July 25).

However, a woman was assaulted by one of the suspects sought from the incident in NewPort Village this morning.

Port Moody police (PMPD) are now turning to the public to help identify the two men involved through witness statements or video footage.

Officers were called at around 10 a.m. to reports of several suspects attempting to rob a local business on the 200 block of Newport Drive.

PMPD spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias explained one of the thieves allegedly wielded a firearm, but then assaulted a female employee.

The good news: she didn't incur any injuries and Zacharias said nothing was taken from the business — cash, products or otherwise.

"This incident occurred in broad daylight and is very concerning for a safe community like Port Moody," he said in a release.

"Anyone with CCTV or dash camera from the area is asked to contact our investigators."

The male suspects are described as:

  • Early 20s
  • Slim build
  • Dark clothing
  • Surgical masks

They were seen fleeing the crime scene westbound on Newport Drive in a dark grey SUV with an obstructed license plate.

Investigators are asking the public for video of Murray Street or Klahanie Drive, specifically on Tuesday between 8:55 and 9 a.m., and 10 and 10:10 a.m.

Anyone with more information about the incident is encouraged to call PMPD at 604-461-3456 and quote file-number 2023-4383, anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online to www.solvecrime.ca.
