The Coquitlam Express has treated its fans to five wins in its first six games and a place atop the BC Hockey League’s (BCHL) Coastal Conference standings.
But the team has a new trick up its sleeve.
Local trick or treaters can apply to have their group accompanied by a player as they make their spooky rounds Halloween night.
“The Coquitlam Express want to join you and your family in the spooktacular celebrations,” said a statement on the team’s website.
“No ghoul is too scary for our boys to scare away, which means no candy will be lost to things that go bump in the night.”
The Express lost for the first time Friday, Oct. 4, 4-1 to the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. But the team bounced back the next night, Oct. 5, with a 4-3 win over the Chiefs at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
Sam Francine, James Shannon, Ryan Staples and Joseph Odyniec scored for the Express while goalie Eric Young stopped 28 shots to register his fifth win of the season.
Coquitlam is tied with the Victoria Grizzlies atop the Coastal Conference standings. Each team has 10 points in six games.
The Express hosts the Langley Rivermen Friday, 7 p.m., at Poirier.
The two teams meet again the following night at the George Preston Arena in Langley before the league takes a break from its usual routine for its annual showcase event in Chilliwack where collegiate and pro scouts from across the hockey world will be able to observe all the teams in action in one location over three days.
Coquitlam will play the Spruce Grove Saints on Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m. and the Brooks Bandits at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17.
The Express then returns to Poirier Oct. 18 to host the Okotoks Oilers at 7 p.m.
