Fallen trees from Tuesday's wind storm caused the closure of roads in Port Coquitlam.

Residents of Port Coquitlam are being asked to avoid forested areas and report any downed trees after the region was battered by an intense wind storm Tuesday night, Nov. 19.

Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, Coast Meridian Road remained closed from Lincoln to Apel, as well as Kent Avenue between Coast Meridian and Wellington, because of several downed trees and others leaning over the roadway.

The storm also caused power outages in several areas, including one that affected almost 4,000 customers on Port Coqutilam’s north side. It has since been restored.

But another affecting 843 customers north of Laurier Avenue and east of Coast Meridian was still ongoing as of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Social media posts showed several large trees felled on Heritage Mountain Boulevard in Port Moody. Another said objects were being blown off balconies and roof top patios.

In Coquitlam, a large area around Mundy Park, including parts of the Harbour Village, Ranch Park, Chineside, Laurentian Belaire, Dartmoor and Essondale neighbourhoods were without power for part of the night.

The weather system, known as a bomb cyclone, resulted in wind gusts up to 70 km/h in parts of Metro Vancouver.

More to come...
