Why an eight-year-old violinist will serenade visitors at Port Moody's Rocky Point Pier today

PORT MOODY — Get ready to be serenaded by a Tri-Cities elementary school violinist at Rocky Point Pier today, all for a good cause.

Kevin Sun, a fourth grader at École Porter Street Elementary in Coquitlam will be at the Rocky Point Pier in Port Moody from 4 to 5 p.m. today, Oct. 5, to serenade people with soulful music.

And, to raise money for Terry Fox Foundation.

Sun, according to a Donnalee Sutton, staff at the school, has been frequenting the pier to play his violin and raise money for the foundation ahead of the school's Terry Fox Run on Friday, Oct. 6.

The goal for the eight-year-old is to raise at least $100, she said. "He's already raised $60."

"[Kevin] is one of those kids that just goes above and beyond….one of those children that will help," Sutton said.

"He's just a good little citizen, and I thought it should be celebrated."

Sun is really excited about playing the violin and giving back to the school, Sutton added, which is also raising money for the foundation.

The school is hoping to raise around $3,000 this year for the foundation after raising $8,000 last year.

Ashif Jiwa, Porter Street Elementary principal, said he is very proud of Kevin, for doing this.

Interested viewers can drop by the pier at Rocky Point Park between 4 and 5 p.m. today to watch Sun in action and contribute donations for the Terry Fox Foundation.
