In 2020, Tri-City realtors and their Metro Vancouver colleagues raised $50,000 for charities to get through the winter season.
The then state of the COVID-19 pandemic only allowed online fundraising to take place for the sake of the public's health and safety.
Now, one of the largest and longest-running fundraisers in the Lower Mainland is returning to normal for its 27th edition.
Starting Monday (Nov. 15) — and through until Nov. 22 — the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) Blanket Drive is hoping to collect as many winter clothing items as possible for residents in need to stay warm.
"Although some COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, the pandemic continues to adversely affect our partner charities," said REBGV chair Taylor Biggar in a news release.
"With the success of our online fundraiser last year, we're collecting donations and raising funds in 2021 to help meet the dual needs of these charities."
The 2021 week-long event also hopes to virtually raise $30,000 for associated charities, which collectively serve about 35,000 people in the region.
This year, there are 15 locations across Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody to drop off winter clothing.
