As graduation ceremonies go, a Port Moody school went off without a hitch — right down to an "impromptu" lightsaber duel.
One Heritage Woods Secondary grad decided to take his entrance up a notch as hundreds of Kodiaks' students and their families watched the commencement proceedings at Simon Fraser University (SFU) on Saturday (June 18).
When his name was called, Hunter Wark-Pantoja pulled out not one, but two Star Wars lightsabers from beneath his cloak and handed one of them to principal Todd Clerkson.
And most impressive, the force was strong with both of them.
"He is a Star Wars enthusiast and asked me the day before commencement if he could bring a lightsaber on stage," Clerkson told the Tri-City News.
"I said, 'Sure, why not!' He surprised me on stage by producing a second lightsaber which led to a fun impromptu duel between us."
In fact, the two fought like experienced Jedi knights to enthusiastic support of the student body and everyone else in attendance.
There are 350 Heritage Woods graduates this year.
Wark-Pantoja appeared to strike a serious blow to his principal, but the two hugged it out in the end.

The entire duel! Context: “Mr. Clerkson, can I bring a light saber to Commencement?” Me: “Sure, why not…”. Then he pulled out 2! The rest was unscripted! #HWSSgrad2022 pic.twitter.com/Y3hIHzn5dy
