A retired Coquitlam man has found a way to capture the beauty of the Tri-Cities and show it to an appreciative audience via YouTube.
In late December, Como Lake Park was the subject of Leonard Whistler's most recent drone video.
The small park — located off Gatensbury Road in Coquitlam — is home to a walking loop and a beautiful lake, often filled with ducks and geese.
But the lake froze over during a spate of cold weather in late December.
Whistler took out his drone to shoot video of the lake in its icy glory on Dec. 28, 2021, and uploaded it to his YouTube channel, LenWhistler.
It's already been seen by more than 1,000 people.
The spectacular video shows how the park neatly fits into the Lower Mainland, with snowy mountains as a back drop.
"I chose Como lake Park because it's easy to get to, very photogenic and a Coquitlam icon," said Whistler, who bought his drone two years ago.
The drone was flying at about 57 meters (187 feet) and the temperature was about -5 C (23 F).
Whistler, who has his own YouTube channel, has also posted videos of the New Westminster waterfront, the Fraser River and Burrard Inlet.
